Divorce or separating

Change policy after divorce

Whether you need to arrange something for your healthcare insurance depends on your situation. Below you'll find the information you need for each situation. Don't know exactly which situation applies to you? You can search for your policy details in the VGZ app.

  • If you separate, it's important that your (former) partner takes out their own healthcare insurance or is placed on someone else's policy. You can read how your (former) partner can arrange this online in the easiest and quickest way on the right. Can't figure it out online? Then your (former) partner can contact us.

  • In that case, you can take out your own policy or have yourself added to another policy. You'll then be automatically removed from the policy of your (former) partner. Did you have a discount via your former partner's employer? If so, this discount will lapse. You may still be able to make use of a discount on your supplementary insurance via another group insurance.

  • That isn't necessary. This is automatically arranged via the Personal Records Database (BRP). The BRP will inform us of your new marital status and any change of address. It is, however, good to keep an eye on whether your information has been updated correctly. That way, you avoid payment arrears due to incorrect or outdated information.

Check information via the VGZ app.

  • You can easily arrange this yourself via the VGZ app. Does your (former) partner have a higher coverage? Then it's advisable to add your children up to the age of 18 to his or her policy.

  • Did you use your partner's surname during your marriage? And do you no longer want to use that name after the divorce? Then you can submit a request to your municipality for a name change. We'll receive your new preferred name from the Personal Records Database (BRP). Your insurance will remain unchanged.
  • If you separate, your living situation may change. In addition to adjusting your healthcare insurance, it may also be advisable to look at your home insurance, for example. Are you still sufficiently insured? Or are you overinsured because you're moving to a smaller home? Calculate the best premium for your situation with our partner Univé (in Dutch).
