When you go to a healthcare provider, they may ask to see your healthcare card. You can find your digital healthcare card and EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) in the VGZ app. Prefer carrying your healthcare card and EHIC in your wallet? No problem. Use the VGZ app to request a plastic version of the card and we’ll send it to your address.
What's the healthcare card for?
A healthcare card is personal and holds your citizen service number (BSN) and VGZ customer number. A healthcare provider uses this information to submit claims and may therefore ask for your healthcare card.

Is the healthcare card an official document?
The digital healthcare card and EHIC in the app is not an official document. That’s why, in some cases, healthcare providers abroad won’t accept the information in the app. If that’s the case, contact the VGZ Emergency Center at +31 40 297 55 50. This way, we can send them proof of your insurance and help you avoid having to pay for healthcare costs in advance. We’d also advise you to bring a plastic version of your healthcare card and EHIC if you go abroad. You can easily request one via the VGZ app. We’ll send the card to your address free of charge and within 5 working days.
